The Miami Heat are reportedly trading six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors as part of a multi-team sign-and-trade deal that will run through the 2026-27 season, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania and Brian Windhorst Wednesday (February 5) night.
"BREAKING: The Miami Heat are finalizing a deal to send Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors for Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson and a protected first-round pick, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote.
"New Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler has agreed to a new two-year, $121 million extension with the franchise through 2026-27, sources tell me and @WindhorstESPN. Butler is declining his 2025-26 player option for this new $121M deal," Charania added in a separate post.
The trade also includes the Detroit Pistons, who will acquire Lindy Waters III from the Warriors and Josh Richardson from the Heat. Butler was suspended multiple times after publicly requesting a trade last month, the latest incident stemming from walking out of a shootaround after being informed that he was benched last week.
The Heat claimed to be working on a deal at the time of the incident after team president Pat Riley said the franchise had no plans to trade Butler despite the reported request. Butler is averaging 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
