Ex-WWE Star Shad Gaspard Dead After Going Missing While Swimming With Son

Ex-WWE star Shad Gaspard was found dead on Los Angeles' Venice Beach on Wednesday morning (May 20), as per TMZ. He was 39.

According to the L.A. County Coroner, Gaspard's body was first seen on the beach by a citizen who called the authorities at 1:30 am. Law enforcement sources told the celebrity gossip outlet that the officers responded and recovered the body right near the Venice Pier. Later on, the L.A. Fire Department held a news conference, revealing that the body matched the description of the star. Previously, the U.S. Coast Guard had revealed that they suspended their search one day prior after "covering 70 square nautical miles and seven search patterns" in almost 17 hours.

Gaspard went missing on Sunday after he was last seen in the waters off Venice Beach. He went missing when a group of swimmers, including his son, Aryeh, got caught in a rip current near the pier. At the time, Gaspard told lifeguards to focus on getting his 10-year-old son to safety. When they returned to help the star, he had already gone under. "The 10-year-old son was evaluated and he was okay," the LAFD official previously told Us Weekly. "The coast guard helicopter, LA County Fire Boat and LA County Sheriff boat were all on the scene. LAFD was on the scene for 4-5 hours."
