Women Of "Saturday Night Live" Defend Franken After Groping Allegations

Three-dozen women who worked with Senator Al Franken on "Saturday Night Live" are coming to his defense amid allegations of sexual misconduct.  In a letter, the women called Franken's behavior toward Leeann Tweeden "stupid and foolish," but wrote, "not one of us ever experienced any inappropriate behavior" from the Minnesota Democrat.

They said, "We know Al as a devoted and dedicated family man, a wonderful comedic performer, and an honorable public servant."  They thanked him for treating them with the "utmost respect and regard."  The letter, titled "SNL Women Offer Solidarity in Support of Al Franken," was signed by 36 women who worked on the program with Franken between 1975 and 1995.

The letter was sent out less than a week after Tweeden, a radio news anchor in Los Angeles, accused Franken of forcibly kissing and groping her a decade ago when they were entertaining U.S. troops in the Middle East.
